Welcome to tellthetruth.com

I had the fortune to be born during the administration of one of the great American Presidents of the twentieth century, Harry Truman.  He serves as the inspiration for this site’s title and some of its content.  What the reader can expect when they visit this web site is, at a minimum, a daily posting on a topic of political importance based on the truth and, almost without exception, a progressive viewpoint.

During the 1948 Presidential campaign President Truman gave a speech where a man in the crowd yelled back, “Give ‘em Hell Harry”, to which the President replied, “I don’t give ‘em Hell, I tell the truth on them and they think they are in Hell.”  That simple principle runs throughout this site and is the inspiration for a feature call Harry’s Hell.  Periodically we will induct people into Harry’s Hell for their “achievements” in hypocrisy and “creative truth telling”.  The late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan also shares some credit here.  During a floor debate in the Senate he chastised another Senator with the statement, “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.”

It’s not that I am expecting perfection from our leaders and want to be leaders; I am just expecting the presence of accuracy and a lack of hypocrisy.  I accept imperfections.  If I did not I could not accept the very imperfect creature that I am.  I, like the vast majority of Americans, hate the holier than thou people who end up practicing what they so sanctimoniously preach against.

Accurate information is critically important if an individual is expected to make an intelligent decision!  There is simply too much incomplete, inaccurate, deceitful and flat out incorrect information presented to the American public each day by self-serving entertainers who masquerade as journalists.  They will tell you that, “Someone in a green dress robbed the bank”.  Therefore you come to the logical conclusion that a woman robbed the bank.  The problem is that they deliberately withhold the fact that the person in the dress also had a full grown mustache and beard.  Does your opinion about the gender of the robber change now?  Another favorite trick is to say that so and so reported.  That is a true fact, but did so and so checks the accuracy of what they reported?  It’s like saying Bill said, “He dated my sister”.  Well in fact Bill did say that.   The only problem is that I don’t have a sister.

Will an inaccuracy get by me and onto this site?  Perhaps, but I can guarantee you that it will be extremely rare, if in fact it ever occurs, and that I will retract it as soon as possible!  I also guarantee that I will never rumor monger or just make up stuff to support my point of view.

While I am a progressive and I fervently feel that almost without exception the progressive agenda is in the best interest of the United States of America and the world, I have no problem with people looking at the truth and drawing different conclusions due to a different political philosophy.  That is called freedom of speech and it is part of what makes this country great.

I hope you visit my site often.  I promise it will be accurate, informative, thought provoking, occasionally controversial and hopefully more than just occasionally entertaining.

On a visit to Asheville this summer I bought, and proudly display, a bumper sticker that reads,”Do you keep hearing crazy voices? Turn off Fox News.” To avoid any copywright problems, the sticker was produced by Northern Sun Merchandising. Their web site is http://www.northernsun.com.
